Essential Agents for Restoring Skin Health

I would like to share with you what I have learned from the experts over the years, without getting too scientific and taking up too much of your time.

Firstly, a healthy diet is important when it comes to skin health. You also need a diet rich in fruit and vegetables, the more variety of colours the better, because each one is an antioxidant.

There is a huge amount of clinical support for three main ingredients that have been the pillar of dermatology for the past 30 years.

-  These are alpha hydroxy acid (AHA) which is an antioxidant for DNA repair

-  Skin protection with an SPF of at least 15 - UVA and UVB protection

-  Retinoid (Vitamin A)- which increases epidermal thickness, treats fine lines and wrinkles, skin roughness, hyperpigmentation,

antibacterial and sebum properties and anti-oxidant.

Experts all agree that protecting your skin from the sun is not only essential it is vital, even if it is a cool cloudy day. There is no safe and healthy way to get a tan from the sun. UVA penetrates glass. When possible, only a limited amount of time should be spent in strong sunlight and it is preferable to spend more time in the shade.

-  UVA rays Age your skin- give a short term tan, affects your collegian, therefore, cause premature ageing.

-  UVB rays Burns your skin- some sunscreens only have UVB protection, therefore check the label carefully.

I have carefully studied the available cosmeceuticals on the market and have my own brand of creams that contain the three-essential ant-ageing products. My patients love them and can see the benefit to their skin (without costing a fortune).

Lamb’s Aesthetics - Protect Cream

Protect Daily moisturiser, SPF 20 (clear) or SPF 50 (Tinted) which I would recommend for use every day.  For example, I like to use SPF 20 on a cloudy day when I am working in the clinic. I use SPF 50 tinted if I am outdoors.  In strong sunshine, I would re-apply Protect 50 to my face every 2 hours. In the past, I have found that a lot of sun protection products on the market are thick in consistency and irritate my eyes.  With this product, there is no effect on my eyes. I don’t even apply foundation because my face has a healthy-looking appearance, I just pop on a cream blusher a bit of mascara and I am good to go.

Lamb’s Aesthetics - C-10 Serum

Contains a prescription strength Vitamin C.

It is important to note that Vitamin C cannot be synthesised by the body orally sufficiently and therefore, needs to be supplied to the body as a topical application on the skin.

-  Vitamin C (L- Ascorbic Acid) is an antioxidant that stops damage to skin cells. It also helps to stop the depletion of collagen,

protects against chronic photodamage (wrinkles, discolouration, roughness and altered texture of the skin) and skin cancer.

Lamb’s Aesthetics - Recover Night Cream

Contains Vitamin A.

This is  crucial to achieving skin health and restoration. There are many forms of Vitamin A derivatives (tretinoin,

isotretinoin, retinol, adapalene and tazarotene) which can be confusing when you look at product ingredients. Vitamin A, must be applied at night, because if applied during the day the sun destroys the effect. Vitamin A, has beneficial effects on the stratum corneum (dead skin sells) and the deeper layers of the skin, it is an excellent product for photoaging, fine lines, hyperpigmentation (brown patches) wrinkles and skin problems such as acne.
