Frequently Asked Questons

What are dermal fillers and how do they work?

We use a range of approved, premium dermal fillers that contain hyaluronic acid which is a substance that occurs naturally in the body. This means it not only fills the wrinkles but also replaces something the body has lost over time. Hyaluronic acid facial fillers come in different formulations of gel for each specific area. The gel is injected under the skin with an ultra-fine needle or cannula. They can help reduce deep lines and wrinkles, fill hollows and smooth the contours of your face. Anti-ageing facial fillers are the non-surgical way to achieve younger looking skin and provide volume for tired lines and wrinkles.

As your skin ages, it loses the collagen that helps shape and support it. Natural lines and wrinkles deepen. Sun exposure, smoking, air pollution and even stress can all age your appearance. The face can also begin to lose volume giving sunken cheeks and a ‘dragged down’ appearance.

Facial fillers can plump up your skin, smooth wrinkles and fill out deep lines by replacing the collagen lost due to natural ageing or skin damage.

Premium dermal fillers are injected in small controlled doses just under the surface of skin of the area to be treated. This fills out the sunken areas and lines to give a smoother, firmer and more refreshed appearance. Depending on the type of dermal filler used, results can last from 6 to 24 months.

What happens after the treatment?

Afterwards, there might be a small amount of swelling which will quickly subside. Depending on the area treated, it usually takes no longer than 30 minutes and you can leave the clinic as soon as you are ready to do so.

Minimal recovery time is required after dermal filler treatment and you can return to normal activities straight away. You may experience some slight swelling or bruising to the area being injected and typically doesn’t last longer than 48 hours.

How much difference will it make?

Facial fillers plump up your skin, smooth wrinkles and fill out deep lines by replacing the volume lost due to natural ageing or skin damage. They’re also used to add volume to cheeks and lips and you’ll experience a fuller, more supple appearance in the areas treated.

Why do people get their lips injected?

Ageing naturally causes your lips to become thinner and lose definition. Where you’re likely to notice it most is around ‘Cupid’s Bow’ - the V-shaped area of your upper lip. You may have used make-up to disguise things, but it can bleed down the vertical wrinkles and actually highlight the problem.

What’s so good about getting your lips done?

Lip fillers can be used to give you youthful looking, plump lips. People of all ages with naturally thin or thinning lips can benefit from lip enhancement treatment.

- A more defined smile

- Enhance your pout

- Can help turn the corners of the mouth upwards

- Give lips a more youthful looking appearance

Does it hurt?

Lips are sensitive, therefore a local anaesthetic is first applied to the lips to ensure the area is numb. Lip fillers are then very carefully injected into the area required to give you more natural fuller lips.

How long does it take to get your lips done?

The whole lip enhancement procedure should take as little as 30 minutes. To discuss how you can achieve fuller lips with more definition a detailed discussion will take place before the procedure.

How quickly does it work?

The results of lip enhancement treatment are immediate and should last up to 6 months. To maintain volume and definition, you may need a top-up. After any initial swelling and possible bruising subsides, you should be left with beautifully full and plumb looking lips.

What are facial injections and specifically what is the product called Botox?

Botox is a prescription medicine that is injected into muscles and is used to improve the look of moderate to

severe frown lines between the eyebrows (glabellar lines) in people 18 to 65 years of age for a short period of time.

Botox is administered by a healthcare professional as a simple, nonsurgical treatment that is injected directly into the muscles between the brows. It works by blocking nerve impulses to the injected muscles. This reduces muscle activity that causes moderate to severe lines to form between the brows. Individual results may vary.

Does it hurt?

When your forehead is injected the worst it will feel like is a scratch or an ice cream headache.

Will you be able to tell I’ve had it?

Sometimes your forehead will be slightly marked for an hour but generally people leave and go about their day.

Why can only prescribers give you facial injections such as Botox?

Botox is a prescription only drug and only fully qualified doctors, nurses and dentists will prescribe and carry out your treatment..

Botox injections are non-invasive and most often used to smooth away forehead wrinkles, crow’s feet and laughter lines to give your skin a fresher, more youthful appearance. The effects can last up to 3 to 4 months.

The muscle relaxant Botox is an anti-ageing treatment commonly used to help smooth the appearance of lines and wrinkles. Laughing, smiling, frowning and lifestyle factors all contribute to the development of facial lines and wrinkles.

After my treatment can I drink?

All we ask is that you have no alcohol on treatment day, avoid tilting your head forwards for a few hours afterwards and do not exercise for 24 hours. If you’ve any temporary discomfort, just take ordinary painkillers.

How does Botox work?

Botox works by blocking the nerve impulses to the muscles. The muscles then relax and can’t contract and, in turn lines and wrinkles relax too and begin to soften giving you a younger looking complexion.

Botox is a prescription medicine that is injected into muscles and used to improve the look of the “11s,” the moderate-to-severe frown lines between the eyebrows (glabellar lines). It works by blocking nerve impulses to the injected muscles. This reduces muscle activity that causes moderate to severe lines to form between the brows.

Why do we get fine lines?

Over time, your face will naturally start to develop fine lines and wrinkles as collagen and elastin break down. These fibres help support the skin structures which in turn help to maintain a smooth looking complexion. When the collagen and elastin fibres break down, skin loses its strength and elasticity and lines and wrinkles begin to appear.

Over exposure to sun on holidays, smoking, city living with high pollution, squinting at monitors and mobile phone screens – all these factors can take their toll on your skin. The stress of a busy life can accelerate the ageing process leaving your skin with tired lines and wrinkles. Most people first notice fine lines and wrinkles around their eyes and mouth.

How quickly does it work?

Within days, you may see a marked improvement in the moderate-to-severe frown lines between your brows. Lines continue to improve for up to 30 days, and results can last for up to 4 months. Individual results may vary.

How long does it last?

Visible results have been shown to last up to 4 months. However, results may vary.

Does it hurt?

Discomfort is usually minimal and brief. The entire procedure takes approximately 10 minutes.

Side effects associated with the injection include localized pain, infection, inflammation, tenderness, swelling, redness, and/or bleeding/bruising.

Will I still be able to move my face?

Although the results are visible, a treatment with Botox will not radically change your facial appearance or make you look as if you’ve “had work done.” The muscle activity that causes frown lines between the brows is temporarily reduced, so you can still frown or look surprised without the wrinkles and creases between your brows.

All treatments are individualised to the patient’s needs and goals.
