The Right Practitioner for You

You may be reading this blog because you’ve reached a stage in your life when you look into a mirror and feel that you look tired, older and your skin looks dull. We’ve all had these moments. You may feel that you’d like a little help, but feel confused as to which treatments or procedures would be suitable, and have no idea what to do, or where to start.

Often, my patients will say that they don’t like the lines between their brows or lines around their eyes. They complain of the loss of the volume in their cheeks or heaviness to their jowls and lower face. Some patients feel that they had nice lips when they were younger, but now feel that they are deflated, with the corners of their mouths turned down, making them look sad.

We all want to look good for our age, without looking obviously ‘over-done.’ To me, the whole idea of aesthetics, is to keep the looks we were born with, whilst holding back the ageing process. In other words, looking the best we can and fighting back with subtle improvements.

This can be done by using various methods:

• To soften deep lines around the eyes (crow’s feet/orbicularis oculi), deep lines between the nose (11’s / glabella and procerus) and forehead (fronalis), we use wrinkle- relaxing toxins commonly known as Botox. My product of choice is Azzalure.

• To replace lost volume in your cheeks, lips, chin, jaw, forehead, eyebrows, temples and adjust facial asymmetry, I use non-permanent fillers that contain hyaluronic acid. My product of choice is the Teosyal range of fillers.

• To make your skin texture smoother, I use the genuine Dermal Stamp micro-needling device and Skin-Med peels. All of which will encourage collagen growth. I also have my own anti-ageing creams and serums with active ingredients that will balance, brighten and have a softening effect on the skin.

• If you need surgery, lasers, radio frequency or thread lifting, I can direct you to a suitably trained practitioner.

• I can draw up a treatment plan for you with the various options for you to consider, that will bring about the changes that you are hoping for.

• The key to all treatments is ‘less is more.’ A good practitioner, in my opinion, will not give you big lips, pillow cheeks or allow no movement of your face. A natural refreshed appearance is all that I am aiming for.

Lifestyle:

Your lifestyle is crucial to the appearance of your skin (I know you’ve heard this many time before). Eating a healthy diet, rich in colourful fresh fruit and vegetables, getting enough sleep, regular exercise, minimising your intake of sugar and alcohol, and not smoking. Furthermore, using decent skin care with a sunscreen has been proven to have a big impact on fine lines and wrinkles, not to mention, skin cancer prevention.

Caution:

Its right to be cautious about finding a safe practitioner in your area. Unfortunately, the aesthetic industry is unregulated and anyone can perform aesthetic injectable treatments. Always go to either a nurse, doctor or dentist who are regulated by their own governing bodies and are accountable. Most aesthetic treatments are ‘medical’ procedures, rather than ‘beauty’ treatments, and your face is very precious, so think carefully before you pick a cheaper option. I am a member of ‘Save Face,’ which is a national register of Accredited practitioners, who provide non-surgical cosmetic treatments. Save Face is recognised by the Government, The Department of Health, NHS England and The Care Quality Commission. Please visit Save Face to view my accreditation and five star ratings.
